Mumbai, May 1 -- Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma hoisted the national flag at Shivaji Park to mark Maharashtra Day here on Friday, and paid homage to martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement agitation.
The 67th Maharashtra Foundation Day on Friday was marked with patriotic fervour as Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma paid homage to 107 martyrs and addressed the gathering at the main official ceremony held at Shivaji Park, in Dadar West.
Governor Varma's Secretary of Protocol, Rajesh Gawande, read out the Marathi translation of the Governor's address.
Maharashtra Day, which is observed annually on May 1, is observed as an official state holiday.
