Bengaluru, May 29 -- Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on Friday formally accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, ending weeks of speculation over a leadership transition in the ruling Congress government.

An official communication from Raj Bhavan said the Governor also dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by Siddaramaiah with immediate effect after accepting his resignation tendered on Thursday.

Siddaramaiah had submitted his resignation letter to the Governor's Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru as Gehlot was away in Madhya Pradesh at the time.
