Siliguri, Aug. 10 -- The long-standing demand for a separate Gorkhaland state has once again emerged as a major point of political debate in Bengal's popular mountainous destination Darjeeling Hills, with divisions becoming visible among regional political parties over the nature of a proposed permanent political solution.

While BJP-backed political forces and the state government are exploring an alternative arrangement within the existing administrative framework, a section of hill-based political parties and organisations has rejected the move, insisting that the demand for a separate Gorkhaland state cannot be diluted.
