Washington, June 21 -- Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said on Sunday that he expects diplomatic outreach with Iran to fail, but argued that negotiations should still be given a chance before other options are considered.

"Let's try a diplomatic solution," Graham told CBS News. "I think it's going to fail. What happens next?"The South Carolina senator, a close ally of President Donald Trump, said he spent more than four hours with the president on Friday and outlined what he believes would follow if negotiations break down.

"If this deal fails, President Trump is going to take the Strait of Hormuz over by force," Graham said.
