New Delhi, March 2 -- A woman passenger was held at Indira Gandhi International Airport for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 1.84 crore, customs officials said on Monday.
A senior Customs official said that the woman arrived in New Delhi from Addis Ababa by flight number ET-686.
During inspection, Customs officials grew suspicious of the woman and conducted a thorough search of her and her baggage.
Upon examination, 1,843 grams of high-purity gold concealed inside her bag was recovered.
The total value of the seized gold has been estimated at approximately Rs 2,37,05,811.
During questioning, the woman admitted that she had smuggled the gold to evade Customs duty and avoid detection.
