New Delhi, April 24 -- Global crude steel production fell in March 2026, reflecting subdued performance in key markets, even as India continued to register strong growth, according to the World Steel Association.

Crude steel output across 69 reporting countries stood at 159.9 million tonnes (Mt) during the month, marking a decline of 4.2 per cent compared to March last year.

China, the world's largest steel producer, reported a 6.3 per cent drop in output to 87.0 Mt, indicating continued weakness in its construction and manufacturing sectors.

In contrast, India maintained its growth trajectory, with production rising 9.4 per cent year-on-year to 15.3 Mt, further strengthening its position as the second-largest steel producer globally.
