Gopalganj, May 23 -- The administration has restricted the movement of heavy vehicles as a precautionary measure on the Gopalganj-Bettiah route after detecting a structural gap in the span of the crucial Jadopur-Manglapur mega bridge built over the Gandak river, connecting Gopalganj and Bettiah in Bihar.
District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Sinha said here that Pier Number 5 of the bridge has subsided, leading to a gap between two spans. Local residents have expressed concern, warning that failure to carry out timely repairs could lead to a major accident.
Following reports of the defect, Sinha, along with SDM Anil Kumar and officials from the Water Resources Department, inspected the site and reviewed safety arrangements.
