Siliguri, Sept. 12 -- For nearly seven to eight decades, the curd of Gangarampur in South Dinajpur has gradually earned a special name across North Bengal. Now, from a popular local delicacy, Gangarampur's famous Kheer Doi is set to seek a much wider identity, with the product's proposed Geographical Indication (GI) recognition raising hopes among traders, artisans and people associated with the traditional dairy trade.
The Dakshin Dinajpur District Chamber of Commerce has applied to the Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Government of West Bengal, seeking GI recognition for the famous Kheer Doi of Gangarampur. The application is currently under process.
