Buenos Aires, Sept. 7 -- Midfielder Tomas Galvan scored twice as River Plate secured a 3-1 home win over Independiente Rivadavia in Argentina's Clausura tournament.
Gonzalo Montiel put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot and Galvan doubled the advantage with a clinical finish past Nicolas Bolcato on Sunday.
Alex Arce pulled a goal back by nodding in after Jose Florentin's headed flick, but Galvan restored his team's lead when he rifled a long-range effort into the top-right corner 10 minutes from time.
River is now ninth in the 15-team Zone B standings with 10 points, six behind leader Argentinos Juniors. Independiente Rivadavia is eighth with 11 points, according to Xinhua.
