New Delhi, June 14 -- : Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said that expenditure alone could not revive a river (Yamuna) as he participated in a cleanliness drive under the Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan at Chhath Ghat near Purana Loha Pul on Sunday. To protect the river, he noted that "thousands of crores of rupees have been spent," yet the river has become even more polluted and degraded over the years.
The Speaker stressed that sustainable change could be brought only when government initiatives were complemented by active citizen participation and a shared commitment to protecting the river. "Accountability, public ownership, and continuous civic engagement were equally essential," he added.
