Aizawl, April 5 -- A major crackdown on illegal fuel trade along the India-Myanmar border has gathered pace in southern Mizoram, with fresh seizures and arrests in Lunglei district highlighting the impact of a recent government-imposed ban on fuel transportation to neighbouring Myanmar.
In one of the largest recent operations, Mizoram Police intercepted over 7,620 litres of petrol and diesel in Lunglei in the early hours of April 3, foiling an alleged smuggling attempt.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team raided a fuel station around 1 am and found six individuals transferring fuel into plastic barrels under the cover of darkness.
