FSSAI proposes restrictions on the manufacture and sale of analogue products as 'paneer'

Panchkula, Sept. 24 -- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed restricting the manufacture and sale of analogue products labelled as "paneer" to prevent consumers from being misled about their nature and composition.

This proposal is included in the draft Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Amendment Regulations, 2026, published in the Gazette of India on September 23.

The notification states that FSSAI proposes to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011 by adding a new clause (12) after clause (11) in sub-regulation 2.1.1.
