Patna, April 14 -- Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a veteran leader and one of the state's longest-serving CMs who stepped down today, was first sworn in on March 3, 2000, for a brief eight-day term.
Kumar was sworn in then despite not being a member of either the Bihar Legislative Assembly or the State Legislative Council at that time.
Kumar, a member of the 13th Lok Sabha and a union Cabinet Minister, had resigned from the cabinet to become the Chief Minister of Bihar for seven days in March 2000 after the Assembly elections in the State resulted in a hung House.
NDA and allies had 151 MLAs whereas Lalu Prasad Yadav had 159 MLAs in the 324-member house. Both alliances had less than the majority mark of 163.
