Dhaka, Aug. 26 -- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior politician Fazlur Rahman has expressed concern for his and his family's safety, in the wake of protests over his remarks critical of the country's July Uprising. Rahman said his remarks had been misrepresented, and feared that he should not fall victim to mob justice.
Fazlur Rahman's remarks came as protestors held demonstrations outside his house.
Rahman, advisor to the Chairperson of BNP, is a former member of the Mukti Bahini - the freedom fighters from the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
Referring to the July Upring of last year, Rahman had said that "dark forces" had backed the movement, referring to the Jamaat - e-Islami, whom he has long been critical of.
