Paris/London, July 4 -- France and the UK have announced plans to jointly work with Oman to help ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, drawing Iran's ire.
In a joint statement, London and Paris called the Strait a critical route for global trade and energy supplies and stressed the need to guarantee freedom of navigation for vessels of all nations.
"The Strait of Hormuz is a vital artery for the global economy. Restoring safe transit for ships of all nations through the Strait is a matter of global concern," the statement read.
The two countries further said that Oman had agreed to cooperate in efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of navigation within its territorial waters.
