Raipur/Kanker, May 2 -- Four District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast during a de-mining operation in Kanker district of south Chhattisgarh today.
Three jawans succumbed to their injuries soon after the blast, while one critically injured jawan succumbed while being airlifted for treatment.
The incident took place along the Kanker-Narayanpur border under the Chhote Bethiya police station limits. A DRG team was carrying out a search and de-mining operation in the Maoist-affected area when the explosion occurred.
The incident comes weeks after the state government announced on March 31 that armed Maoist activity had been brought under control.
