Bhubaneswar, May 24 -- At least four persons died and 17 others fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated food served at a Shradh feast in Odisha's Sundargarh district.

The incident, according to officials, was reported from Nuadihi village under Hemgiri block, where villagers had gathered on Saturday to attend a post-funeral ritual feast.

Soon after having the meal, several attendees reportedly developed symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, severe stomach pain, diarrhoea and extreme weakness. Panic gripped the village as the health condition of many participants deteriorated rapidly, they added.

The affected persons were immediately shifted to nearby healthcare facilities in Sundargarh and neighbouring Jharsuguda district. While 10 ...
