Shillong, Sept. 28 -- Four migrant labourers from Assam, working on an underground septic tank in Meghalaya's South Garo Hills district, died of suspected toxic gas inhalation, police said on Monday.
The incident took place around 3 pm on Sunday at the house of Sebastian Ch. Sangma in Rangdokram village, when workers attempted to open the lid of the underground septic tank.
Two of the workers collapsed almost immediately upon exposure to the trapped toxic fumes.
In a desperate bid to save them, the remaining two workers rushed to their companions' aid but were quickly overcome by the gas as well.
