Bhubaneswar, July 27 -- Former Odisha Minister and three-time Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Sushant Singh passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 53.

Singh, a prominent BJD leader from western Odisha, represented the Bhatli Assembly constituency in Bargarh district after winning the 2009, 2014 and 2019 Assembly elections.

During the Naveen Patnaik-led government, he served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employees' State Insurance (ESI) and later held the Rural Development portfolio.

He had been battling a prolonged illness and was admitted to hospital in early 2025 after his health deteriorated.
