Shillong, Feb. 11 -- Former Meghalaya legislator Mohendro Rapsang has resigned from the primary membership of the ruling National People's Party (NPP), citing personal reasons.

Rapsang had joined the the Conrad Sangma-led NPP after he and four other then Congress legislators were suspended by the Congress party for supporting the previous NPP-led government.

Rapsang unsuccessfully contested the 2023 Meghalaya assembly elections losing it to United Democratic Party legislator Paul Lyngdoh by a margin of 3,485 votes.

In his resignation letter to NPP state president Prestone Tynsong, Rapsang expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the party over the past four years.
