Kolkata, May 15 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday suspended Vineet Goyal, the former commissioner of Kolkata Police, and two more IPS officers, including Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta, for alleged lapses in the RG Kar rape and murder.

Goyal was the police commissioner in Kolkata when a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee was raped and murdered inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024.

Mukherjee was then posted as the deputy commissioner central, and Gupta held the position of the deputy commissioner north.
