Rio De Janeiro, April 5 -- Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar has retired from football after a professional career spanning almost 18 years.
The 34-year-old said his contract with Sao Paulo, due to expire in December 2027, had been terminated by mutual consent after he was diagnosed with a heart condition.
"I wanted to do more for Sao Paulo, I wanted to play more," Oscar said in a statement on Saturday.
"I think I still had both the football and the age to keep playing, but unfortunately, this happened.
