New Delhi, Feb. 28 -- A Special CBI court in Siliguri has awarded four years of rigorous imprisonment to a former Superintendent of Central Excise in connection with a bribery case.
The court awarded the jail term to the accused, Achintya Kumar Pramanik, who was then serving as Superintendent of Central Excise. He has also been fined Rs. 40,000 in the case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case in 2015 based on a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 from the proprietor of a private firm.
The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered from his possession.
