Former BSP MP Atul Rai could pose problems for BJP and SP in 2027 UP elections

Lucknow, June 18 -- Former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Atul Rai has begun preparations for the 2027 assembly elections. However, according to BJP sources, Atul Rai's political activism could pose problems for both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) in half a dozen seats in Purvanchal.

Atul Rai recently announced that he will field a family member from the Mohammadabad assembly seat. Rai, a former MP from the Ghosi parliamentary constituency in Mau district, is considered to have a strong hold on several assembly seats in Ghazipur, Ballia, Varanasi, and Mau districts of Purvanchal.
