Rome, May 1 -- Over 3,500 people have been evacuated after a large wildfire swept through forested areas in Italy's Tuscany region, according to Corriere Toscano on Friday.

The forest fire continues to rage between the cities of Pisa and Lucca in the picturesque Tuscany region.

Fanned by strong winds, the blaze has destroyed around 400 hectares (1.5 square miles) of woodland across the provinces of Lucca and Pisa, according to media reports.

Authorities ordered the evacuation of residents from the village of Asciano as the fire approached.

The municipal administration of San Giuliano Terme, which includes Asciano, also advised people to avoid using private vehicles to facilitate emergency operations.
