Aizawl, March 21 -- A senior official of the Mizoram Police on Friday indicated that the seven foreign nationals arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of acting as mercenaries were unlikely to have entered the state by air, pointing instead to possible land routes through neighbouring states.
The official said stringent checks at the state's lone airport, Lengpui Airport, make it virtually impossible for foreign nationals to pass through without possessing a valid Protected Area Permit (PAP). According to him, both state police personnel and officials of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) conduct thorough verification of all incoming passengers, particularly foreigners.
