Kolkata, Sept. 3 -- Nearly nine out of 10 food establishments inspected across West Bengal during the first two days of the state government's Special Food Safety Week were found to have major irregularities, with authorities prohibiting the sale of food at 11 establishments, suspending or cancelling five licences and closing or sealing 13 premises, according to official inspection data.
Food safety teams inspected 1,730 Food Business Operators on September 1 and 2, of which 1,525, or nearly 88 per cent, were found to have major irregularities. Corrective action was suggested in 1,517 cases, while 901 food samples were collected for laboratory analysis and proceedings initiated in 17 cases.
