Lucknow, July 31 -- Even though the monsoon has weakened again in Uttar Pradesh, heavy rains in the mountains and catchment areas have led to a major flood situation in the state.

While 10 rivers, including the Ganga, Ghaghra, and Saryu, are rising and have inundated low-lying areas, several incidents have claimed the lives of 2 people, and agricultural fields have been submerged in flood waters.

A boat capsized in the Sharda River in Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday evening, in which 2 people are feared dead.

In Varanasi several ghats and temples near the Ganga have been submerged in the flood waters. Authorities have banned plying of boats on the Ganga in Varanasi due to floods.
