Rio De Janeiro, Aug. 26 -- Striker Pedro netted a hat-trick as Flamengo romped to an 8-0home rout of Vitoria in Brazil's Serie A. Samuel Lino scored twice while Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Luis Araujo and Bruno Henrique were also on target at the Maracana stadium.

Vitoria controlled just 27 percent of possession and had only one shot on goal for the night on Monday.

It was the widest victory margin in Brazil's top flight since 1984, when Vasco da Gama crushed Tuna Luso 9-0.

The result also equaled Flamengo's 8-0 defeat of Fortaleza in 1981, the club's biggest win in the national league.

"It really was a fantastic game, complete in every sense," Flamengo manager Filipe Luis told a post-match news conference.
