Kolkata, March 1 -- Five workers were killed after coming into contact with an 11,000-volt electric wire at a stone-cutting factory in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district on Sunday, police said.
The tragic accident triggered panic and tension in the area under Dinhata police station's jurisdiction as cops and senior administrative officials rushed to the spot.
The incident took place within Dinhata Village-II-gram panchayat, near the Garer Math locality.
According to preliminary information, work was underway at a stone-cutting unit when an 11,000-volt overhead power line accidentally fell on the iron portion of a mixer machine being used at the site.
The workers operating nearby suffered electric shock.
Five of them died on the spot.
