Siliguri, June 8 -- Five towns in north Bengal - Mirik, Kurseong, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri - will be developed as Himalayan Hill Cities under a new urban development initiative, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said on Sunday.
Addressing the media at Uttarkanya, the state branch secretariat in Siliguri, Paul said the initiative would be undertaken following directions from union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Earlier in the day, the minister chaired a review meeting with administrative officials from the four districts of north Bengal. Newly elected MLAs and MPs from the Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri regions were also present.
