Chandigarh, Nov. 17 -- In a major security scare in Punjab's Nawanshahr district, a high-speed car chase ended in a burst of gunfire at the Banga bus stand on Monday. According to local shopkeepers, two vehicles were seen speeding into the market area, a Scorpio being chased by another car, believed to be an i-20. As soon as the vehicles approached the bus stand, occupants of the second car reportedly opened indiscriminate fire.

Witnesses said the attackers fired nearly 35 to 40 rounds at close range, leaving five men traveling in the Scorpio injured. The victims were initially taken to Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, but due to their critical condition, all were referred to DMC Ludhiana for advanced treatment.
