Kolkata, Sept. 1 -- West Bengal has identified Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Murshidabad as the state's five most dengue-prone districts amid intensified monsoon activity, prompting authorities to step up surveillance and vector-control measures.
The districts have been identified on the basis of dengue cases reported during the past month as well as the current monsoon, officials said.
Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said the state had recorded 15 per cent fewer dengue cases than during the corresponding period last year as of August 16, but warned that continued rainfall could create fresh mosquito-breeding sites.
