Thiruvananthapuram, July 18 -- Kerala's newly established Skin Bank at Government Medical College, Kottayam, has recorded its first skin donation, with the family of a 17-year-old accident victim choosing to donate his skin despite their personal tragedy.
The donor, Ashiq Vijayan (17) of Angadikkal North in Pathanamthitta, died after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
His donation is the first since the Skin Bank and skin transplantation services became operational at Kottayam Medical College, Health Minister K. Muralidharan has said.
