Thiruvananthapuram, May 18 -- In one of its first major political and administrative decisions after assuming office, the new Congress-led UDF government in Kerala has ordered a fresh investigation into the controversial violence that erupted during the Nava Kerala Sadas tour in Alappuzha under the previous LDF regime.

The decision was taken at the first Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister VD Satheesan soon after the swearing-in of the new ministry.

Briefing the Cabinet decisions, the Chief Minister said the meeting decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of police brutality, political violence, and abuse of power during the incident that had triggered massive outrage across the state.
