Burdwan, July 16 -- Panic gripped passengers after smoke and fire were detected on the 22387 Down Black Diamond Express between Khana Junction and Talit Railway Station near Burdwan town on Thursday evening.
However, there were no reports of any injuries.
The passengers hurriedly got down from the compartments after the train driver applied the emergency brake.
Senior Eastern Railway officials said the issue was caused by "brake binding" in the coach just behind the engine near Talit station.The problem was noticed around 7:45 PM. After repairs, the train resumed its journey toward its destination at around 8:20 PM.
