Pune, April 2 -- An Indian researcher at the University of Houston, Dr. Kaalyani Kulkarni, has reported progress in understanding how the Kidneys gets injured and ways to protect it.

"In simple terms our research suggests that we can retrain the immune system to protect the Kidneys instead of harming them," Dr. Kulkarni, a post doctoral fellow at Houston studying kidney related diseases, stated in a release here.

"There is a powerful hormone system in the body called the renmedicalin-angiotensin system. This system helps control blood pressure and fluid balance. But when it becomes overactive or imbalanced, it can contribute to kidney damage, especially in conditions like high blood pressure, obesity, and inflammation," she explained.
