Washington, July 29 -- Former top US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci on Wednesday refused to answer questions from a Senate panel regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Although it pains me to do so, because of the respect I have for the legislative branch of government and my decades-long record of cooperating with Congress, under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions," Fauci told the hearing.
Sen. Rand Paul, in turn, said that the committee would consider what measures should be taken against Fauci, as refusal to testify amid a congressional investigation is illegal.
