Nagpur, Nov. 21 -- A father allegedly attempted to kill his daughter with a knife, leaving her in a pool of blood, police said on Friday, adding he later left the house and out of fear of being punished, took poison and ended his life.

According to police, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Mankapur police station on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Ramprasad Tiwari (53), from Jhenda Chowk, Mankapur. He worked as a property broker and is survived by his wife and three daughters. The eldest daughter was a 12th grade dropout. Tiwari was reportedly constantly suspicious of her, repeatedly stirring up domestic arguments, police said.
