Srinagar, Oct. 8 -- National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Thursday described veteran actor Nana Patekar as a "very good friend" and a "very good human being" who devoted his life to helping the poor and needy.

Patekar, 75, died of a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning.

"He was a very good friend of mine and, above all, a very good human being. Throughout his life, he helped the poor and the needy," Abdullah told reporters. "In fact, he used to live among downtrodden people in tribal villages and worked to address the problems of those in need."Recalling his association with the actor, Abdullah said Patekar had visited Jammu and Kashmir several times.
