Srinagar, April 17 -- National Conference president and veteran politician Farooq Abdullah on Friday questioned the Centre's intent on bringing the Constitution amendment bill to advance 33-% women's reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
The Lok Sabha on Friday evening defeated the amendment bill.
Earlier in the day, speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah claimed that the Women's Reservation Bill was initially withdrawn because it lacked the required two-thirds majority needed to pass a constitutional amendment.
"They withdrew the bill as they were sure they would not get a two-thirds majority. Later, they brought back the same bill passed in 2023," he said.
