Beed, May 26 -- Farmers affected by excessive rainfall during the Kharif 2024 season staged a symbolic hunger strike outside the District Collector's office in Beed on Tuesday, demanding immediate disbursal of pending crop insurance compensation.

The agitation was organised by the Swarajya Janjagruti Parishad, which accused the administration of ignoring repeated appeals despite the worsening financial condition of cultivators.

According to the organisation, large-scale crop losses caused by heavy rains pushed many farmers into severe economic hardship, while some were allegedly driven to extreme steps, including suicide. However, despite the gravity of the situation, affected cultivators are yet to receive their crop insurance claims.
