Samastipur, Aug. 10 -- A large number of activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) were arrested on Monday as part of the nationwide "Jail Bharo" agitation called by the All India Kisan Sabha and the Bihar Provincial Agricultural Labourers' Union.
The activists, led by CPM MLA Ajay Kumar, staged an angry demonstration outside the Samastipur district Collectorate and blocked the Samastipur-Patna main road for several hours, disrupting traffic.
Addressing the protesters, Kumar criticised the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, saying the agriculture sector was facing a prolonged crisis, leaving farmers unable to get remunerative prices for their produce while the cost of cultivation continued to rise.
