Kolkata, May 18 -- A couple of days after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari threatened to take action against Jahangir Khan, the TMC candidate from Falta, moved the Calcutta High Court on Monday, apprehending arrest before polling day.

Justice Saugata Bhattacharya allowed Khan to file the petition and fixed the matter for hearing at 2 pm on Monday.

Jahangir's move to court is politically significant as the assembly constituency under the Diamond Harbour parliamentary constituency is going for a re-poll on May 21 following widespread rigging during the recently concluded assembly elections in the state.

In his petition, Khan alleged that multiple "false cases" and FIRs had been lodged against him.
