Kochi, June 12 -- Cyber fraudsters are exploiting the FIFA World Cup 2026 fever by targeting football fans with fake TV streaming applications promoted through social media platforms, leading to financial fraud and unauthorised access to mobile devices.
A cybersecurity advisory warned that advertisements circulating on Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp and YouTube promising "Free FIFA World Cup Live", "1,000 TV Channels Free," "Premium OTT Content Free," and "Ad-Free Movies and Matches" are being used to lure users into downloading fraudulent APK files. The fake applications, often appearing similar to official streaming platforms, are promoted under names such as HZ TV, OPEN TV, NB TV, MAX TV, XM TV and TUBI TV.
