Varanasi, March 31 -- The Special Task Force (STF) unit of Varanasi has arrested a man accused of impersonating an Indian Army commanding officer and defrauding unemployed youths of large sums of money.
The accused was apprehended from the Sundarpur area under Bhelupur police station limits, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Dharmendra Pandey, is a resident of Kaili village in Alinagar, Chandauli district. He had been living in a rented flat at Vibhuti Enclave Apartments in Sundarpur, Varanasi.
Pandey allegedly created a fake identity as a "Commanding Officer, Army Intelligence Alpha-1 (Colonel)", and used forged documents to convince people that he was a serving Army officer.
