Amravati, Sept. 24 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday assured farmers affected by scanty rainfall that the state government would provide financial assistance before Diwali without waiting for Central aid.
During his visit to drought-affected regions of Vidarbha, Fadnavis made a major announcement, stating that the Maharashtra government would extend relief to farmers from its own funds rather than wait for assistance from the Centre.
He said the legal process involved in securing Central aid takes time and stressed that immediate support would be provided by the state government.
Fadnavis further said efforts were being made to ensure that the relief amount is credited to farmers' bank accounts before Diwali.
