Rio De Janeiro, Aug. 19 -- Veteran goalkeeper Fabio saved two spot kicks as Fluminense reached the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals by beating Independiente Rivadavia 5-4 on penalties.

After a goalless draw in Brazil last week, Fluminense suffered a blow in the 57th minute of the second leg in Mendoza when Agustin Canobbio was sent off for a second yellow card after a bad foul.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Colombian forward Kevin Serna put Fluminense ahead witha 75th-minute strike after combining with midfielder Hercules. Alex Arce converted a stoppage-time penalty after an Ignacio handball to force the game into a shootout on Tuesday.
