Guwahati, Feb. 27 -- With an eye on elections, the Assam Government has increased the daily wages of the tea garden workers by Rs 30.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this and added that with the increase, the daily wages in Brahmaputra Valley will be Rs 280 per day while it will be Rs 258 per dayin tea gardens in Barak Valley.

"The cabinet has approved increase of Rs 30 in the wages as an interim measure. This will be effective from April 1," Sarma said.

"We held a tripartite meeting yeaterday with the state government, tea garden labour unions and owners on the issue of increasing the wages. As new Labour Codes implemented by the Central government, wages will have to be hiked. We will probably have to sit again in the nex...
