Kolkata, June 2 -- More than 130 hawkers operating from a temporary market in east Kolkata's Anandapur off EM Bypass have lodged a police complaint alleging that a Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) councillor and his associates extorted crores of rupees from traders in exchange for shop allotments.
Based on the complaint, Anandapur Police Station has registered an FIR against KMC's Ward number 108 councillor Sushanta Kumar Ghosh and his associates, including Sujit Kumar and Gopal Mallick.
Investigators have begun examining the financial transactions linked to the allegations.
